Staff Bios - Ruth Osborn
Vice President/ Co-Owner (26 Years)
Ruth Osborn was born in Mt. Holly, NJ, and spent her childhood in Pine Beach, as her father was a career naval officer stationed at Lakehurst until his retirement. Teenage years were spent in Middletown, NJ where Ruth finished high school. Following graduation, she studied at the
Stuart School of Business, where her concentration was business administration. Next came a move to Rochester in 1980. Her first job as a legal assistant, led to paralegal responsibilities at a law firm that specialized in residential and commercial real estate. In 1988, Ruth was asked to manage and eventually lead an affiliated construction and development company that specialized in Victorian-era buildings - restoring and turning them into high-end luxury rental units. The company expanded to include construction of single-family homes and housing developments in the Honeoye Falls/Mendon, NY area.
In 1993, one of the partners in that company, Andy Hale, invested in Fox Run, subsequently asking Ruth to become the comptroller of the winery. In 1998, Ruth married Scott Osborn and moved to the winery with her two children Jessica and Michael. The family house is a restored 1870 Eastlake Victorian farmhouse - original to the Fox Run property from its days as a dairy farm. In 2012, when the winery became family-owned, Ruth's sister Kathleen and her husband Albert Zafonte joined the business. As vice president and co-owner of Fox Run, Ruth oversees the financial management of the winery and overall management with Scott. She travels frequently, representing Fox Run nationally and abroad. After a recent trip to Italy, Ruth was inspired to create an open market and café at Fox Run. Taking a cue from beautiful, time-tested European food markets, she created a Finger Lakes culinary hotspot, where New York natural and artisan foods take center stage.
